Plot

Purshottam plays the role of Lord Laxman along with his cousin Sitaram, portrayed by Ashwath Bhatt, who plays Lord Ram in Ramleela Mandali, run by his uncle Ramsevak. Their life takes a turn where they need to leave their performance midway because of an unintended mistake by Sitaram. Can he bring his family back to the stage? Do they succeed in preserving the art of RamLeela?

Star Performance

Abhishek Duhan, in the role of Purushottam Choubey, delivers a sincere performance. He successfully conveys his helplessness. Talented Vineet Kumar, portraying Mahant Ramsevak, commendably plays the role of his forte with Rajneesh, in the role of Omkar Singh, radiates a cruel character.

Analysis

Based in Mathura, “Mandali” is rooted in a stage that is gradually fading from our consciousness. It is a story that preserves its honesty while translating it to the screen. Purshottam Choubey and his cousin Sitaram Choubey lead the Ramleela group, their drama show gets cancelled when Sitaram is alleged to the consumption drugs which shows the inception of the problems faced by the troupe. The appeal of this film lies in its storytelling. The film's dialogues are deeply rooted in the atmosphere of Mathura, providing the touch of authenticity to the story. Significantly, the people from North India will be able to relate well to the concept of Ramleela and will enjoy it. It's a modest film that manages to bring a smile to your face after it concludes.

What’s There?

Verdict

Although it is a limited-budget film, the filmmakers have done a remarkable job of bringing a story to life on the big screen. This film is a decent watch that delivers a positive message to the audience. Ultimately, it manages to touch you with the simplicity of the narrative and its characters.
