It does not seem to be a Sundar C movie; instead like director Hari’s. Action sequences in this movie are risky and expensive. Most of the movies by Sundar C do not have this much action bang. As Vishal is the producer of this movie, he has spent much to give a great intro scene himself.

Coming to the story, it is a usual story that deals with the marriage between cousins. As usual, Ramya Krishnan is the strict aunty who has certain conditions. Like the Neelambari of Padayappa, Ramya has performed her role majestically; yet some features are lagging. Planning to reunite the family through the marriage is the oldest story of Tamil cinema. The story is disappointing, as this kind of stories were already seen in the early 80s and 90s. But the actors have done justice to the roles given to them. The title Aambala has nothing to do, except Vishal’s action and dialogues. Vishal’s interest in politics is revealed clearly in this movie through the dialogues. When Vishal could do movies like Paandiya Naadu, Naan Sigappu Manidhan, why he chooses the stories like Aambala and Poojai is the great question mark here.

Hansika, the heroine has done her job like any other heroine, who fights, dances around the tree and spell out some senti dialogues. Hansika’s glamour has been used well by Sundar C in Aambala. Overall, this is a masala movie for the youth and for the middle aged people, it might not be interesting, as Vishal’s Thamirabarani and Thimiru.

Aambala… only for the youth!
