Plot

Forcefully evicted from their apartment and in dire need of money, a group of friends, spearheaded by an aspiring filmmaker, find themselves at Koyambedu junction, Chennai. A chance encounter sparks a risky scheme to earn quick money and alleviate their financial troubles, but their path is fraught with deception and unforeseen consequences. Did their gamble pay off, or did they fall victim to their ambitions?

Star Performances

The film predominantly has a new and relatively inexperienced cast, but it matters little as all the actors fit in their parts and play their roles to perfection. All the four friends, notable among these are Paari, who plays an aspiring director and actress Upasana, who plays a software expert, have given perfect performances. This group of friends shares a bond that shines through in severe and comedic scenes. M S Baskar, a seasoned actor, lends his skills as an adviser to the MLA, and Namo Narayanan Namo Narayanan was a South Indian actor. Analysis

In this digital age, especially when AI-generated videos have become a common topic of discussion, the masses can be fooled. There is hardly anything that goes unnoticed on the web and it could have devastating consequences. This forms the central theme of this film. Though the idea seems engaging, its execution suffers from some notable plot holes. The film's strength lies in portraying technology as a double-edged sword through its story. It shows how fast deepfakes can be created using a basic laptop and how effortlessly one can hide one’s identity with tools like VPNs and face filters. Upasana RC performs strongly as Muneeswari, the tech-savvy friend's talents facilitate and ultimately threaten the group's plot. Friends' moral anguish over the victim's plight feels somewhat contrived, given their disappointment. A ridiculous and clumsy heist in the latter half provides enough laughs to distract from the contradictions. This film is one of the first attempts to showcase the negative side of the online world, so it is ultimately up to the filmmaker to sell it and make it believable; however, its uneven execution prevents it from being a genuinely impactful thriller.  Also, the film fails to make the political scenario engaging enough for the audience to be intrigued. Also, some of the characters were underutilized and could have been used better. The screenplay fails to utilize the full potential of the actors; though, they performed pretty well with whatever they were given. It regains footing by leaning into a darkly comedic tone during the second half. The absurd and clumsy heist in the latter half provides enough laughs to distract from the inconsistencies. The film’s cinematography is pretty decent, and the editing is sensible. However, the poor writing costs the credibility of their efforts. The music wasn’t apt but passable.

What’s There?

  • The acting performances of the inexperienced cast were something fresh to watch.
  • The film carries a central message highlighting the importance of voting.

What’s Not There?

  • The film’s first half feels a bit laid back.
  • The budgetary constraints are evident.
  • The poor writing is vividly evident.

Verdict

If you are okay with a crime-comedy film with a technical bent, then you surely will find some enjoyment in this film. The film, especially during the election season, imparts an important message of genuine voting and tries to showcase the backstage activities of political field.
