The Middle Season 6 started on 24 September 2014 on ABC. It was produced by Warner Bros. Television and Blackie and Blondie Productions along with Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline who were series creators and executive producers. Because of Frankie, kids start their school a week late, and Sue gets her braces removed. Mike and Frankie start looking for another job so that Sue can go to a good college. Brad and Sue star, write, and direct in the senior play which Frankie misses because of her second job. Axl collects various household items to furnish his and Hutch’s rented house without permission, and Brick plays with his annoying and noisy childhood toys which Frankie had packed away. Brick wants to go to Fall Fantasy Dance, Axl is panicked when he has to choose a college major, and Sue gets edgy after drinking lot of coffee to look more mature as a senior. Frankie and Mike’s 22nd anniversary approaches.

Axl finds another roommate to help in expenses as he and Hutch want to renovate their house, and Frankie gives them dining set after buying a new one online but it later turns out to be doll furniture. Darrin gives Sue a necklace as a symbol of his love but she learns that he gave the same to his ex, and Mike and Frankie are surprised when Brick invites a girl just to hang out. Axl gets locked in the library when he goes there for a history paper. Sue tries to master tinikling for credit in gym class. Brick asks Axl’s advice when he breaks Mike’s lawn mower. Their sink falls into sinkhole so they decide to eat out for Thanksgiving where Brick invites Cindy. Sue helps Darrin to get approved by Mike but things don’t go as planned. Mike misses Axl’s first college football game to attend Sue’s college-tour weekend, but Frankie goes there leaving Brick with different babysitters. Axl has bad game and tries to avoid Devin Levin who was watching the game.

During Christmas, Frankie decides to simply decorate feeling unappreciated, Mike tries to buy artificial tree because of Sue’s allergy but doesn’t get it, and Axl, Sean and Darrin’s friendship is at stake due to Axl and Sean’s argument. One of Frankie’s former classmate, Pam Staggs, arrives which makes Frankie overjoyed at first but later it turns out to be annoying. Sue tries many things to get college scholarship, and Axl keeps annoying Devin Levin for another date. Sue gets another job at quarry but it turns out to be disaster when she starts partying causing people nearly die which makes Mike to yell at her and ground her for six weeks to break his trust. They get a new sink, Frankie gets an expired check from car dealership which Mr.Ehlert refuses to pay until she works for a day, Brick quizzes Hecks about scenarios of different game shows, and Frankie’s indifferent attitude gets her two commissions.

Hecks boards a train to take Aunt Edie’s body to her resting place but in the way, Mike is accused of being uncaring by Frankie when she is helped by another man, Axl thinks him to be cause of her death as he used excuse of her dying many times, Brick makes new friend, and Sue is worried about her college’s acceptance as she sent draft of her personal essay which makes Axl angry as she applied to his university also. Brick asks out Cindy on Valentine’s Day as Frankie encourages him, Axl celebrates National Radio Day on Feb 13 with Devin when she claims to hate Valentine’s Day, and Darrin plans a scavenger hunt for Sue which ends in a house which Darrin claims to be for them and then proposes her for marriage with a ring. Sue reveals that she said yes for marriage as she was panicked which makes Mike angry but she says that she will handle it. Sue tells Darrin that she needs to do many things before marriage and breaks their engagement. Frankie gives a day to Brick to do anything as they forgot his birthday but all regret this decision.

Devin sees the way Axl nicknamed the girls in his contacts list, and breaks up with him but later both reconcile. Axl’s friend Finn flirts with Frankie and she returns the favour, and when Frankie talks about it to her friend, she realizes that they may be listening to her talks. Sue hesitantly takes Brick to a convention which she later enjoys, and Mike realizes that tag should not be driving while helping him for a road test. Sue and Frankie are nervous for Sue’s college acceptance, and Brick decides to write a novel which he later gives up. Mike and Rusty clean their father’s junk and Mike realizes that he may be the reason of Rusty’s unambitious life. Sue and Axl fight, and Frankie gets between them taking both sides but when they learn about it they bond over their frustration for Frankie. Brick gets an award for being the Athlete of the Month which later turns out to be for another kid.

Axl is forced by Mike to come home when he is celebrating his 21st birthday to move a freezer which is revealed as an excuse to have beer with him but later Mike refuses to take him to bar after an argument. Axl goes to bar alone but Mike has to come there due to a problem and both have beer together. Brick starts becoming mini-Axl by behaving badly with Frankie which results in multiple punishments, and Sue is tempted to join a rival food court but later gets convinced to join Brad’s food stand. Frankie and Mike has to resolve her father, brother, and Uncle’s argument, and Sue receives detention for sneaking during lunch and she takes Axl help to survive it. Sue is sad that after Darrin there is no one to go on prom with when a handsome man who works in same mall asks her out but things does not work out until he confesses that he really likes her. Brick and Axl start business together, and Frankie and Mike keep falling asleep during watching movies on date night. Mike arranges an afternoon tea for the family and Pat as a Mother’s Day gift for Frankie thinking she’ll enjoy it but nobody actually wants it.

Frankie is disappointed with the gifts but she later gets happy when an employee of store tells her how kids spent hours to find them. Because of some incidents, Sue is worried that she won’t leave a footprint behind at Orson High, but entire class comes with a huge surprise for her at graduation. Axl is worried about Devin returning to Idaho after seeing a photo but she surprises him by coming to Indiana and clears about the picture. Brick is offered to go directly to high school which leaves Mike and Frankie wondering.
