The season two of the American drama TV show is also known as the Day two. This season was first broadcasted from 29 October 2002 to 20 May 2003 on Fox. Like the previous season, this season begins at 8:00 am and ends at 8:00 am the next day. The season premiere originally aired on Fox, commercial free, and had an extended runtime of fifty-one minutes, unlike the previous episodes which had a runtime of forty-three minutes. Day two is set exactly after Day one. This season's main plot pursues the work of President David Palmer, who has been recently elected, and the protagonist of the show, Jack Bauer, as they try to stop the terrorists from setting off a nuclear bomb in Los Angeles.

Kate Warner is new to all this, and she manages to end up with vital information regarding all of CTU's work. The first act of CTU is to stop the terrorist organization from blasting a bomb in the city of Hollywood, Los Angeles. After they have stopped the nuclear attack, Jack Bauer and the CTU need to avert a misdirected US retaliatory strike, after they found a possible forged piece of document. After the death of Jack Bauer's wife Katie Bauer and his unborn son, he retires from the CTU. After rescuing a young girl from her drunk and abusive father, Kim along with the girl is on the run.

Kate Warner is suspecting that her sister's husband might turn out to be a terrorist from the Middle East. The headquarters of the CTU is blown up to pieces with the help of C4, in order to redirect resources to immobilise its ability to find the bomb. The Director of CTU, George Mason's life is in danger after he was exposed to a fatal dose of radiation. Jack wants to mend his relationship with his daughter and is always worried about her safety. After being tortured by terrorists, Jack begins to develop a rare heart ailment.

David Palmer is determined to find the rats present in his cabinet who are threatening to revolt and remove him from the Congress so that they can pursue their own evil agenda. A sensual form of relationship between Michelle Dressler and Tony Almeida starts developing.
