The season four of the American drama TV show is also known as the Day Four. This season was first broadcasted from 9 January 2005 to 23 May 2005 on Fox. Day Four is set exactly eighteen months after the completion of Day three. After being fired from CTU due to his addiction to heroin, Jack has now started working for James Heller who is the Secretary of Defense. As day four begins, he is involved in trying to stop a terrorist organisation in successfully executing their plan which includes James Heller and his daughter Audrey Raines.

In the previous seasons, there were multiple threats and multiple enemies, but in season 4, there is only one threat and one enemy whose name is Habib Marwan. He is a terrorist based in the Middle East where he controls various terrorist cells that are planning to launch an all-out attack aimed at the United States. Rather than a large singular attack, like a nuclear bombing, this season solely focuses on multiple small attacks, depending on what kind of places are being targeted by Marvin. There is a train bombing to create a diversion in order to kidnap Audrey and her father.

An instrument in the train causes all the nuclear plants in America to shut down. Terrorists manage to shoot down Air Force One. After a stealing a nuclear football, the bombers have launched a missile towards LA which must be intercepted before it is too late. After a long time when Jack Bauer finally returns to field work, he starts clashing with the CTU's agents on how the operation should be run and who should be in charge of the plan. Audrey is horrified after listening to her father's plan to extract information, and this has strained the relationship between the two.

Richard tries to withhold valuable information from the CTU by claiming his right to privacy. Due to the conflicting opinions about the morality regarding infliction of a nuclear catastrophe, the Araz family is beginning to show signs of tearing apart. Curtis starts suspending workers because he thinks there is a mole in the organization. The Counsel from China dies because of fire, and Jack is suspected to be behind his death.
