The Star Screen Awards made its debut in the year 1994 in order to acknowledge the excellent works of the professionals in the Bollywood. A group of Eminent Jurists nominates and elects the best persons in 30 categories every year. There were scintillating dance performances from ‘ Zayed Khan’, ‘ Juhi Parmar Shroff’, ‘ Sangita Ghosh’, ‘ Hrithik Roshan’, and ‘ Nimrat Kaur’. Hero Honda became the title sponsor for this year’s event. The program gave away the rewards in three segments viz. Star Screen Popular Awards, Star Screen Special Awards and Star Screen Technical Awards.
The lifetime achievement award has been bagged by the famous Hindi actress ‘ Mala Sinha’. She was the “Dream Queen” of the entire Bollywood during the early 1960s. ‘ Shreya Ghoshal’ bagged the award for the category 'Best Playback Singer (Female)'. Her voice in the song ‘Piyu Bole’ from the film ' Parineeta' took the lift for the gift. The winner of the Best Supporting Actor-Female was ' Shweta Basu Prasad'. Her dedicated role in the journal 'Iqbal' was the main key behind her victory. The 'Best Actor-Female' was looted by ‘ Rani Mukerji’ for the well-appreciated role in her movie “ Black”.
This year's Best Film Award has been won by the movie “Black” again produced by the Veteran Producer and Director ‘ Sanjay Leela Bhansali’. The same film also got a surprise grabbing up the 'Best Director of the Year'. The recipient was the King of the Bollywood Movie World, 'Sanjay Leela Bhansali'. The 'Best Actor of the Year-Male' was taken away by the actor ‘ Amitabh Bachchan’ for his terrific performance in the cinema “Black”. The function, though in its later edition, has rocked the entire Indian State. Amidst the award distribution ceremony, there was a dazzling singing concert by leading artists around the country including the award-winning Shreya Ghoshal and ‘ Usha Uthup’. Zayad Khan made a grand show with Juhi Parmar for many hits.
Salman Khan made an incredible entry into the board by his aesthetic and unique dancing skills. The audiences were on their feet, cheering for him till the end. ‘ Katrina Kaif’ and ‘ Shilpa Shetty’ joined on the floor later through their individual hits. ‘ Vidya Balan’ was acknowledged for her role in the film “Parineeta”, as the ‘Most Promising Newcomer (Female)’. The award for the Best Background Score of the year went to the Oscar winner, ‘ A R Rahman’ for his legacy in “ Rang De Basanti”. The Best Dialogue Award, the Best Story Award and the Best editing went to the movie “ Lage Raho Munna Bhai” and were shared by ‘ Vidhu Vinod Chopra’, ‘ Rajkumar Hirani’, and ‘ Abhijat Joshi’. This season was a grand success similar to its previous as this would set the shift for the upcoming years too.
