The 24th Filmfare Awards was celebrated in the year 1977. Mrinal Sen’s Hindi film ‘Mrigaya’ won best film award (critics). Filmfare best director award went to Gulzar for Mausam and Filmfare best movie award went to P. Mallikharjuna Rao for making a sensitive film ‘Mausam’.
Sanjeev Kumar won the best actor trophy for Arjun Pandit and Rakhee Gulzar won the best actress award for her sensitive performance in ‘Tapasya’. Best male supporting actor award went to Prem Chopra for ‘Do Anjane’ and best female supporting actress award went to Kajri for ‘Balika Badhu’. Comedian Asrani got the award for his comic performance in ‘Balika Badhu’.
Yash Chopra’s ‘Kabhi Kabhie’ bagged four awards - best dialogue writer for Sagar Sarhadi, best music director for Khayyam, best lyricist award for Sahir Ludhianvi and male best singer award for Mukesh for popular song ‘Kabhie Kabhie Mere Dil Main’. Singer Hemlata got best female singer trophy for song ‘Tu Jo Mere Sur' from film ‘Chitchor’. Basu Chatterjee was the recipient of best screenplay award for his film ‘Choti Si Baat’.
Balachand Mukherjee got the best story writer award for film 'Arjun Pandit'. Film ‘Balika Badhu’ fetched award for Bijoy Chowdhary for editing. Blockbuster movie ‘Fakira’ got two awards. S.S. Samel got the best art director award while Fali Mistry received the best cinematographer award for ‘Fakira’. The film ‘Bairaag’ received a Filmfare award for best sound for P. Harikishan.
