It organizes three major Festivals in India- the Indian Panorama, the International Film Festival of India, and the National Awards. The director of this organization is Sri Senthil Rajan.

The 27th National Film Awards conducted in 1980 felicitated the best of Indian Cinema in 1979. Some of the major highlights of the 27th National Film Awards include the Best Feature Film Award, which was awarded to Shodh. Shodh is a horror movie by Biplab Roy Chowdhury.
