8th National Film Awards Hindi AWARDS on YouTube Channel

The National Films Awards are also known as the State Awards for films. These awards are presented by the Government of India, and specifically by the Ministry Of Information and Broadcasting. The 8th National Film awards were held to commemorate the achievements of various filmmakers during the year, 1960. The award function took place on 31 March 1961 at Vigya Bhavan, New Delhi. The awards were out by Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then Vice-President of the country. 

At this iteration, New category of awards was introduced such as; grants for educational films, Prime Minister’s Gold Medal. A certificate of merit was given out to the second and third best educational movies. The awards were divided into two categories; non-feature and feature films.

The National Film Award For The Best Feature Film, was during the earlier parts of the function known as the President's Gold Medal for the All India Best Feature Film. Unlike the non-non-feature films, feature films were awarded at both regional and national level. In 1961, the Hindi Movie Anuradha was the winner of President's Gold Medal for the All India Best Feature Film. Kshudhita Pashan, a Bengali feature film, won All India Certificate Of Merit, for being the second movie in the country. All India Certificate Of Merit for the second runner-up went to, Deivpiravi, a Tamil movie. R. Krishnan and S. Panju are the directors of the film, and Kamal Brothers are the producers. Phool Aur Kaliyan won the Prime Minister's Gold Medal for the Best Children's Film.
