The Indira Gandhi Awards are held every year in memory and salutation of the First and till date the last female Prime Minister of India, Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi. The speaker at Rashtrapati Bhawan then seeks The President's permission to begin the event of award giving and then explains the award categories, i.e, The best university/upcoming university, the best NSS units and their programme officers, and the best NSS volunteers. The first award for the best university had been presented to Mr. Babu Sebastian and Dr. K. Sabukuttan from Kerala for their university's excellent contribution towards promotion of plant growth, blood donation camp, environment protection, AIDS awareness, building a library and building toilets for the lower class.

The next award for the same category had been presented to Prof. G.S.N Raju and Dr. Nitta Akhila Dharanipal from Andhra Pradesh. The next award for the category of the best programme officer and the NSS units had been presented to ten nominees from Kerala, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh. The best volunteers had been awarded in the end.

The award had been presented to 30 candidates who were from states all over India. In the end, the speaker seeks permission from The President of India to end the programme, and after it had been granted by him, he moved for a picture with the groups. Seeing all these clips reminds you of although how diversified our country is the people of this country still work all together for the benefit and development of India. The nation feels proud of the hard work done by these people.
