Adhikar Ek Kasam Ek Tapasya is a Hindi television serial broadcast on DD National channel. This serial has more than two-hundred episodes. The story revolves around a household which includes a strict mother in law, her husband, three brothers, and their wives. The mother in law runs the household on orthodox rules and regulations. The family is a religious family that believes in Gurus. The eldest brother and his wife didn't have kids. They are being pressurized by the mother in law to become parents. His wife always gives excuses like her husband is not ready to become a father or something like that to divert his mother’s attention from this topic.

The second brother is a dominant husband who is having an extra-marital affair with a woman named Kaanta. He married his wife just because of his parent’s pressure. Now he bosses her, fights with her, and blames her for every wrong thing in his life. The wife is a wise and patient person. In spite of knowing that Kaanta is going to become her husband’s child’s mother, she still wants to save the child. She goes and confronts Kaanta to plead her not to abort this child. She even bribes the doctor to make a promise that she will protect this child at every cost.

The third brother is a nice person. He has married according to his wish, which means it is a love marriage that happened after many difficulties. His mother was against this marriage, but he was adamant about marrying the girl he loved. His wife is an educated woman. She knows when and where something wrong is happening and tries to advise and illuminate the other women of the house to claim their rights. She helps her eldest co-sister to consult a doctor regarding their problem of getting pregnant. She helps her second co-sister by advising her husband to stop drinking and unearths all his secrets.
