Bairi Piya’s story starts with problems faced by the farmers of Maharastra, Tukaram (Amoli’s Father) lives in the Vidarbh of Maharastra with his wife and three children, Tukaram is the only farmer left who hasn’t sold his to Thakur and is farming independently.

Amoli, an 18-year-old girl who is the eldest daughter, is very positive, optimistic and fearless by attitude. Amoli’s friend (Chmoli) was abducted by Thakur’s goons because her father was unable to pay the debts, Amoli fights with the goons, but can’t save her, Thakur secretly keeps Chmoli and spends night with her. Then when she comes back to her family, they accept her because of the society. She then leaves the village; This incident makes Amoli very upset and her anger against Thakur increases. Thakur orders his goons to take over Tukaram’s land at any cost, so the goons set fire on to his crops. This this breaks Tukaram’s family, and Amoli’s mother was about to give poison to all the family members because she did not want to see her children die out of hunger.

Amoli decides to go to Thakur's wife (Rajni) who is very soft and kind. She goes into the haweli while its raining and under the haweli she hides in a room where she searches was searching for Rajni but Thakur catches her, Amoli pleads Thakur to release his her, but Thakur gives her assurance that as he is attracted to her. Later he tries to get her and plans and plots to get her but fails. He then arranges his servants and Amoli’s wedding and after marriage, he tries to impress her but fails again. Meanwhile, Amoli and her husband fall in love with each other which annoys Thakur, and so he kills Amoli’s husband.

Rajni leaves Thakur after knowing the truth; Amoli then takes an oath to punish Thakur but Amoli’s love changes him, and he starts doing things which Amoli likes, Amoli marries Thakur to take her revenge but then falls in love with him and the serial ends on a good note. The Show was a big hit and very famous amongst the in women audience, lots of campaign were run when the show went off. ‘Bairi Piya’ was also criticized because of the reality of the problems faced by the farmers shown in the serial.
