The story is inspired by Emily Bronte’s classic novel, Wuthering Heights.

The show is set in the times of the British Raj. The story begins in 1904 and stretches up to 1945. It is a story about the big landowners around Ootacamund. The name of the main characters is Anjali and Raj. It is a saga about their love, the community not accepting it, and the haunting melodies being played at night which has got the entire village terrified. It showcases all human emotions from love, lust and revenge. The show received a huge response from the audience. It got nominated for various awards and also won a national award. It helped Zee TV to be among the big players in the television industry.

Raj is a teacher who has come to the village of Ootacamund to teach the children about the British society. The landlord of the village hires him as a personal tutor for his adopted boy. The boy grows up and goes to England to complete his studies. When he comes back, instead of taking over the family business, he starts teaching children for free. One day, his father dies due to a heart attack. As his father did not have other children, Raj has to take control over his ancestral land. He falls in love with Anjali (Pooja Bhatt) and marries her. There is a dispute between the newly married couple and their relatives, over the ownership of the land. The justice system hasn't been fully developed, and as of now, it does not recognises any fundamental rights.

Anjali is starting to hate her married life and wants to break up. She finds a rich man from another state. They plan to elope and get married in Mysore. Raj finds out about it and sells his land. He has had enough of it and went in search of his wife. He wants to kill the person who helped her escape and bring her back to live with him.
