Founded in 1996, Kashf Foundation is Pakistan’s premier wealth management organization for low-income household, especially women. Rehaai, a 2003 Pakistani drama TV serial, is an accolade to all the brave women in Pakistan, who have been through endless struggles, but yet achieved success against all odds, and became entrepreneurs, business owners, and operators.

The TV serial portrays the tales of real-life clients of Kashf. It revolves around the problems they face and have resolved with support from Kashf Foundation. Rehaai is the story of Shameem, who got married off when she was barely a child. Her son Waseem, who is married to Shehnaz, bashes her wife conveniently, as a punching bag, every time he needs to vent his frustration. The chapter opens revolving around Waseem’s increasing demand for an heir. A steady built up follow the entire family, especially Waseem, against social rejection for not being able to give birth to a child.

Meanwhile, Chacha Inayat, a neighbor of theirs, always tries to spark Waseem’s desire to father a child. Who, under the covers, is merely using Waseem’s naivety as a means to further his preteen child, Kulsum, as Waseem’s bride! He asserts that a younger woman than Shehnaz can produce heirs much faster. Waseem further agrees to Chacha Inayat, and accepts the proposal; while he threatens his mother and Shehnaz, not to stand on his way towards fulfilling his desire. The story then follows with the dire consequences of child marriage. Kulsum being Waseem’s second wife, Shehnaz isn’t bound with hatred towards her. Rather, she adores Kulsum, as her daughter. Shameem’s sister has a son Akmal, who is always helpful towards Shameem, Shehnaz, and Kulsum. He grows a liking towards Kulsum, while she gives birth to Waseem’s three daughters; which in turn makes Waseem dissatisfied and further angry. Meanwhile, Waseem begins to suspect the air between Akmal and Kulsum and lashes on Akmal.

As Waseem doesn’t earn, their conditions spring from bad to dire; because of which Shameem is pushed to become a maid. As a result, her surrounding society makes a mockery of her. While Shameem’s sister finds out that Waseem had beaten Akmal, she begins to despise Shameem and tells Akmal not to help them any further. But Akmal, not being able to digest their conditions, helps them secretly. He later ends up convincing his mother. Meanwhile, Waseem runs away from home and gets married to Noor Jahan Noor Jahan is a famous Pakistani Urdu television d >> Read More... ; who had already been married for two times. They both don’t get along, as Waseem becomes a “Ghar Jamaai”. Noor’s mother hates him and eventually throws him out of the house. Waseem then meets his long lost friend, who had been doing an illegal business of gambling. Waseem gets shot, while the police attack on them. The accident makes him handicapped. Back at home, Shameem, along with Shehnaz and Kulsum, had started a clothing business.

This agitates Waseem’s jealousy towards the entire thing. And one day when Shameem asks Kulsum to go to Akmal’s shop for some calculations, Waseem bursts out at his mother, pointing out that she is shameless for pushing Kulsum towards Akmal. Shameem replies to him by telling him that indeed she is shameless because she gave birth to such a child who slandered lives of two women (Kulsum’s and Shehnaz’s, both). Since that day, Waseem feels guilty for his actions and asks for forgiveness. They eventually forgive him. Waseem, now fully transformed, decides that Kulsum should marry Akmal. Over this note, Chacha Inayat quarrels with Waseem, but his mindset stays unhindered. Meanwhile, Kulsum thinks that she has lost all of her respect in the society and that she couldn’t remarry.

This thought devours on her and walks her to the aid of trying to commit suicide. The very next day Shameem’s sister visits, and proposes Kulsum’s daughter be wedded with her son. This turns Shehnaz furious, as she is very young and Shehnaz doesn’t want what happened to Kulsum, should happen to Kulsum’s daughter as well. The daughter, on the other hand, tells Waseem that she doesn’t want the marriage to happen, rather aspires to become a doctor. Shameem, while eve’s dropping on both of them talking, feels a cold chill crawl up her spine, as she is scared, of Waseem allowing this marriage to happen. But on the contrary, Waseem encourages his daughter to study. This is where the curtains fall, ending on a happy note, with Shameem gaining freedom from the society’s evil perils or “Rehaai”.
