Ret Ka Dariya means the river of sand. The point that was conveyed by the title was that as sand easily slips through our hands, in the modern age relations and family values are also slipping similarly. The central theme of the show was to portray the present day scenario of the family relations and ties. The show had a successful run of three years on channel Sahara One from the year 2002-2005. Veteran actors like
Shagufta Ali
and
Ronit Roy
were part of its large ensemble cast. The story of the serial revolved around the Pathak family headed by their Dadi Maa who wanted the whole family to live under one roof and was against the modern concept of neutral families. The family was also living happily like that but the third generation when entered their youth were comfortable living in a joint family as they felt that in such an environment, they could have privacy. The problems further increase when the grandson of the family fell in love with a girl who did not wish to live in a joint family and in order to marry her he left the home shattering the hopes of his parents and Dadi Maa. It was later revealed that the girl he fell for was actually after his money and had no interest in spending her life with him. This fact shattered him completely and he decided to commit suicide but fate had other plans and somehow his life was saved by his own family. All in all, the show aimed to teach the youngsters about the traditional Indian values and the love for family.
