BPL Oye—BPL oye is a music countdown show that aired on Hong Kong- based Channel V, between the years -1994-1997. The show acquired vast public support and popularity although at that time people only were subscribed to DD national and local channels. Many actresses, models, and singers were appointed as VJ to this show. The show was undoubtedly a unique one at that time. The Video Jockeys used to visit streets and gatherings and chit chat with the local vendors and public. It featured a countdown of 20 top rated Hindi songs along with their videos and is similar to Chitrahar, but the concept was quite unusual as a supermodel, actress or a renowned personality had to go in between the ordinary people and gossip about varied topics.
Some of the well-known personalities Veejayed for BPL Oye, namely, Anu Agarwal, Ruby Bhatia, Mandeep Beuli, Raageshwari Loomba. The news got featured in October 1994 that BPL Oye' will be moved from Channel V to DD because the show wasn't getting much viewership on V. For DD channel, the show was welcome for three great reasons. Apart from hurting the competition, the program would boost DD's weekend programming (it was to be aired on Saturdays at 9 p.m.), and bring the company a minimum fee of Rs 20 to 21 lakh with a guarantee. A standard sponsored program in the 9 p.m. slot brought DD only Rs 4 to 5 lakh at that time.
