Javed Jaffrey was the judge of the first season and has been until its last season. Mehta Industrial Estate, Andheri, was the location for its first few seasons.

It is the oldest dance competition reality show in India. It is also the most well known and the longest-running shown in the country. The judge would assign various themes on which the performers have to perform the following week. They are based on their performances, and the weakest performer has to exit the show. It is because of their popularity, special editions of the serial were created, like Kid's Champions and Mummy Championship.

On 29 May 2009, the fifth edition of the show was launched. It was called Boogie Woogie Mummys Championship. The show received a warm reception from the audience. It was aired continuously for three months from June to August. It has a runtime of one hour, and it aired on the weekends, Saturdays and Sundays. There were initially twelve contestants.

Many celebrities came to promote their pictures. The kids’ edition has been the best edition till date. It was telecast on Sony TV. Two years later, the show had to wind up. It provided hope for many mums around the country. Following them, many shows started following their model. Zee TV launched its own show under the name Dance India Dance. Other channels like Star Plus have similarly followed. Boogie Woogie had to shut down due to declining audience. We can expect in the future for it to make a return.
