Lucknow is the capital of the state and is home to several magnificent monuments such as Chhota Imambara and Bara Imambara. Last year it reported, around seventy-one million tourists had come to visit the state, making it one of the top tourist destinations in the country.

Majority of the tourists visit only two places: The Hindu Pilgrimage Circuit and The Agra Circuit. Agra is home to three world heritage sites: Agra Fort, the nearby Fatehpur Sikri and the wold famous Taj Mahal. Varanasi is also a popular tourist destination, mostly visited by religious pilgrims. It is considered to be the oldest city in the world. It has a rich Hindu heritage and millions of people from around the world come to bathe in the sacred river Ganges.
