Furious protagonists, scheming relatives, which includes mostly siblings or spurned lovers, Indian television nowadays is replete with such stories. Keeping in with the latest trends is a revenge saga, ‘Om Shakthi Om Shanthi’, which currently premiers on the Kannada version of Colors Channel, Colors Kannada.

Making its debut on 8 February, this show depicts the tale of two sisters, Shakthi, and Shanthi, who are diametrically opposite in ideologies, even though they hail from the same family, residing in the humble village of Kallur. This show belongs to the drama genre and depicts sibling rivalry, where idealistic and practical ideologies clash with each other.

Currently airing in the prime time slot, from Monday to Friday at 9 p.m., this show is the tale of a matriarchal family, the Kadamba family in Kallur village, which is headed by Nageshwari Devi. She rules the house with an iron fist. None, not even her own sons, can dare to oppose her decisions.

However, this iron fist takes a toss, when her elder son, Ajay, marries Nithya, a girl of his choice. To the surprise of one and all, Nageshwari Devi doesn’t refuse the match, as would have been her nature, and agrees to it. However, Nithya is not what everyone thinks to be, and thus begins the revenge saga, which forms the crux of this serial. Nageshwari Devi has two nieces, Shakthi, and Shanti.

Shanti is the epitome of the idealistic and perfect niece, devoted, obedient, and unflinchingly submissive. She always hopes for the best for her aunt, who, however, in turn, refuses to acknowledge her devotion, and deviously wants her to marry her mentally challenged son, Vijay.

However, Shanthi’s outlook isn’t shared by her sister, Shakthi. The epitome of the rebellious, independent woman, she hates the devious ways her aunt Nageshwari Devi plots, to make herself powerful, and get Shanthi married to Vijay. She tries in vain to convince Shanthi of Nageshwari’s plots, fighting a nearly lone battle by herself.

Unlike others, Shakthi does not give up easily, and continues to fight a lone battle against Nageshwari, and hopes that someday or the other, Shanthi would see the real face of her own aunt, who has been systematically exploiting her. She is in fact, Nithya, who comes to the household, with the ulterior motive of setting the scores right.
