Yamalokadalli Prayaschitta is a reality comedy show which came on the channel Zee Kannada. The show is a Kannada language one which came on every week for two days on Thursday and Friday in the time slot between 9:00 and 9:30 PM. The program got premiered on Indian television screens on 22nd March 2012. The entire got based on the concepts of Heaven and Hell. It extends on the legend that those who create trouble during their lifetimes will get sent to Naraka (Hell) once they die and shall get punished appropriately over there for eternity. Who deserves to go and who doesn’t gets decided by the wise Chitragupta. He is God’s own assistant and keeps an account of every human being and what all they have done throughout their life. After one’s death, he works in tandem with Yamadharma, who is the God of death. He takes a call on what the appropriate punishment for that person should be.

This show also has its own Chitragupta as well as Yamadharma. They both judge the participants and mete out “punishments” appropriately. All the participants on the program are famous celebrities, television personalities, and politicians. Yamalokadalli Prayaschitta gets entirely based on the twin notions of sin and punishment.

The film and television personalities hosted are all people who are famous for the portrayal of varying negative characters in their works. They have hence committed a lot of “sins” throughout their life. Owing to the large chunk of daily soap operas of which more than fifty-five air on Kannada regional networks alone, there is no dearth of villains to work with. Numerous negative characters abound, many of whom are even more popular with the audiences than the protagonists themselves.
