The story or the main plot of Ulladakkom revolves around a very sensitive social issue that of the illegitimacy of female child.

The main female protagonist Uttara is a resolute girl and is the illegitimate child of a rich industrialist in Thessur who refused to consider her as his daughter. Her father also belongs to an ancient aristocratic family who upon knowing Uttara’s real identity forces her to lead a life full of struggle where she has to constantly struggle with the humiliation and rejection from the society. Uttara’s rising tides of resentment comes out in the form of words and she in due courses publishes a novel resembling her own life story. The novel upon its publication becomes an instant hit and fortune drops in at her doorstep. Ulladakkom is a sensitive, sympathetic and perceptive plight of a child born outside of a wedlock and reject by her father and her father’s family. It also beautifully depicts the social stigma that the victim has to bear within her soul.
