Gandharva Sangeetham was the most popular program for music in the State of Kerala. The television channel Kairali TV had the overwhelming response after the completion of the first edition. The increasing popularity as well as increased encouragement with the associate Swaralaya, a music and cultural organization, made it kick started another show called as Gandharva Sangeetham Junior.

The history of the series needs a brief here. Swaralaya was celebrating the legendary Singer K J Yesudas’ birthday when he had turned 60 Years. It was conceptualised through a reality by the Kairali TV as Gandharva Sangeetham, and it continued from that point on. Thus, it had initiated as a continuing tribute to K J Yesudas, the King of South Indian Musical Singers.

The competition was open to contenders from all the walks of life to share the floor and pursue their goal about singing. The Judge Panel including the veterans of the Indian Music such as Ouseppachan, Composer turned Violinist Binny Krishnakumar, Playback singer, three times Asianet Annual Award Winner, and music composer M Jayachandran. Some of the celebrities were invited on a weekly basis to add up the colour to this mega broadcast. M J Rajmohan Paravadavanam has given the crown, ‘Junior Yesudas’ for his praiseworthy voice. Thus, the series has brought and unearthed many unknown talents in the State. The contest does not bar the candidates with the potential and talents from other States as well as Foreign Country. Even the Non-Resident Indians had participated. The Finals took place in a grand manner with most of the singers being lined up for seeing the title bearer for the entire event.
