The story of ‘Raja Rani’ revolves around Sembaruthi and Karthik’s love story. Sembaruthi aka Semba is the maid of Rajasekar’s family where Rajasekar and his wife Lakshmi treat her like their daughter, but Lakshmi’s daughter-in-law’s Archana and Vadivu treats Semba badly. Meanwhile, Rajasekar’s younger son Karthik returns to Chennai after spending a long time in Singapore.

The only person who takes a strong stand for Semba is Karthik, and this leads to their marriage. But Vadivu and Archana and Rajasekar’s elder daughter Nandini stand against this relationship. The three ladies want property shares snatching Karthik’s right. Where Rajasekar and Lakshmi support and love Karthik and Semba, Archana, Vadivu and Nandini torture Semba. The story takes u-turn when Karthik makes Semba’s matrimonial profile to get her married. Semba’s alliance finally gets fixed with a man, but on the marriage day, Karthik exposes the groom who is already married and left his first wife. The marriage gets stopped where unfortunately Rajasekar is blamed for Semba’s pity position. Rajasekar thus decides to get his son Karthik married to Semba, but Karthik loves his girlfriend Divya and also promised to marry her. Karthik fixed his and Divya’s engagement on Sembbba’s marriage day. While Divya gets late as she went to pick her parents, here shattered Rajasekar finally convinces Karthik.

Thus, Kartik and Semba get married. Karthik’s girlfriend Divya arrives and gets major shocker seeing Karthik already married to Semba, the couple thus part ways. Karthik hates Semba and doesn’t accept her meanwhile Lakshmi who first supported Semba is now again her. Lakshmi is sad after how Karthik lost her love and had to marry Semba. But with the time, Lakshmi accepts Semba and Karthik also start falling in love with Semba realizing her unseen innocent and kind-hearted side. Meanwhile, the family faces many problems due to Divya who will strive to get Karthik back in her life. Vadivu, Archana, and Nandini will help Divya in her dirty game plans. Divya will cross all shameless limits to get Karthik where she will drug Karthik and will get physically intimate with him. But eventually, she will fail to trap Karthik as Semba will rescue Karthik. In the meantime, Family enemy Devraj traps Rajasekar’s family in debt in such a way that Rajasekar will go helpless to sell his house. The family will go bankrupt but Karthik and Semba stand strong. Finally, Rajasekar’s family maid Shanthi will help them by allotting a house. And from here, the family starts struggling to cope up with the financial burden.
