Achala Nagar is a well-known known and renowned Indian screenplay writer, storyteller, and actress. Nagar is known for her predominant contributions to the Hindi film industry. Nagar was born on the 2nd of December in the year 1939. Her place of birth is Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She was born to her legendary father Amritlal Nagar, who himself was an eminent writer. She had an interest in Hindi literature and writing. To gain brilliance and become a professional, she did Bachelor’s, M.A, and Ph.D. in Hindi literature. She has written the screenplay and has worked with many known names in the film industry.

Deepa Mehta is an Indo-Canadian film director, film producer and screenwriter, who always had remained in controversy for any films that she had shot in India. She is also a very talented documentary filmmaker. She went to make a screen adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children. 

She has made films with the screen presence of versatile performers such as Om Puri, Shabana, Irrfan Khan, Aamir Khan or even Nandita Das. Over the years, she has grown as a person and a cinephile but it seemed that she was wasting visiting the same Indian territory for her first three films. That is why she directed a Hollywood production, The Exclusion (2014), which was an Oscar entry too. From 1994-2005, she made five movies that can be rated very highly for a long time. In terms of style and content, her attention to the raw details of life, the darker side that other filmmakers shy away from is what appealed to many critics and international audiences. She was perfect for adapting Salman Rushdie's’ story in 2012, for an example. She impressed many film festivals so much that her recent movie Beeba Boys( 2015) was really a visual treat and even story-wise stunning. Deepa Mehta had made a couple of really exciting, quirky, visually exciting movies with Indian film stars in her career. She is a Punjabi by birth but had moved to New Delhi for further education. Her father was a film distributor. After her graduation, she took up making documentaries. It was at that time she met a Canadian documentary filmmaker, Paul Saltzman and tied her knot. Later on, they had separated, and she married another film producer David Hamilton. She was born on January 1, 1950, in Amritsar.

Kamini Kaushal is a popular film and TV actress. She was born at Lahore, in 16 January 1927. Her father was a professor in “Government College Lahore, British India.” She had done her graduation from Kinnaird College in Lahore. She married to her brother in law because her sister passed away leaving behind very young children.

She had started her carrier as stage actress in Delhi. She has performed as Radio artist also. Then there was a great boost in her carrier as an artist when she performed a notable role in the film “Neecha Nagar” by Chetan Anand, in 1946. Neecha Nagar’s story was based on the difference and distance between the rich and poor in the society.

She has performed with all superstar celebrities of her time, such as Ashok Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar etc.  She had lead roles in many films of her time and won Film Fare Best Actress Award for role that she had played in Biraj Bahu, in 1956. And she also awarded with Kalpna Chawla Excellence Award in 2013. In 1965, she started playing characters roles in films; Shaheed, Dadnumbari etc.

An interesting fact about Kamini is that she was the first love of Dilip Kumar, the superstar of her time. Dilip Kumar has admitted in his biography that Kamini was first woman, who had fascinated him, but when he proposed her, she did not show any interest in his proposal because she was already married.

Kamini has written and published books for children. She also worked for TV serials. She has played roles in Hindi TV serials, such as, Shano Ki Shadi. Shano Ki Shadi is the most popular TV serial on Star Plus. In this serial she performed the role of Bibi; Shano’s grandmother who is aloud and feisty woman. Now she is still working as TV artist in different serials.
