The series is set in a Bengali household and introduces the characters of Indu, Milli, and Saugato Dasgupta. Indrani, who is fondly called Indu, is presented to the audience as a soft-hearted young woman who is strong and has a determined mentality. Milli is portrayed as the sister of Indu. The family arranges Indu's marriage to a man; however, to her horror and disappointment, she finds Milli eloping with her fiancé.

This incident profoundly traumatizes Indu. The family is angered and disappointed with Milli and her betrayal and arranges for the marriage of Indu with another guy named Saugato Dasgupta quite hastily. Indu doesn't get to have a say in this matter, and she decides to follow through with the marriage after a brief period of introduction to Saugato. However, this time on her wedding day everyone finds strange things happening, so much so that it is clear to everyone that someone is not happy with the marriage itself and doesn't want it to take place or flourish into a happy married life. Saugato's brother Sujato and his estranged wife Laboni are held under suspicion.

As the days go by after the marriage, Indu finds the strange incidents to increase and take a bizarre turn of events. The series portrayed the family as peculiar, misogynistic, and patriarchal. Anything that the women of the household do turns out to irk the male inhabitants of the house. A wrong step here and a small chat, no matter if it is inappropriate or not, tends to give way to the path of insults and violence. In a way, this series portrays the problems faced by women in a typical old-fashioned Indian household where the women have no place to stand their ground or be independent. Also, in this series, there is a plot of murder and several attempts at life, which gives this series a dramatic and suspenseful nature. The thrill of the murder mystery and all the strange eerie incidents drives an innocent woman like Indu into a spiral.

The protagonists Indu and Saugato are tested at every turn in their lives, and this marriage becomes a challenge for both of them. They both decide to fight against the odds, and Indu becomes determined to get to the root of the problem. Also, there are a lot of untold secrets that go throughout the series, which makes the ending of this beautiful story even more suspenseful and turns out like a cliffhanger. One of them being the untold mystery of Khusi's demented mental state. Khusi is portrayed as the unhinged sister of Saugato and Sujato, who appears to have been the victim of some kind of abuse, whether it be physical or sexual.

It's uncanny and nerve-racking to see the male characters of the society who appear to hold their heads with pride and demand respect from everybody else unravel to become such dishonorable men who treat women like Indu so shoddily throughout the series. They treat her as if she's dirt and go as far as to cast a married woman from her in-laws. However, this series, with all its suspense, thrill, mystery, and drama, is worth watching.
