In Azhagu serial, as the title implies, Azhagu plays a lead female character, who take all the family responsibilities and find practical solutions for all the problems and solves them wisely. This serial deals with the shades of love between husband Palani Swamy and his wife Azhagu and how they maintained a great family for decades, even they have individual personalities. Azhagu's family is a happy family, but whenever any issues and problems occur, Azhagu found some amicable solution for all the family issues and help her five children Ravi, Aishwarya, Mahesh, Thiruna and Kavya to lead a peaceful life.

Azhagu's sons' wives are of contradictory personalities, in which Ravi's wife Sudha is a good wife and ideal daughter in law. In contrast, Mahesh's wife, Poorna, intentionally creates problems for everyone and hurts everyone in that family; she mainly targets Sudha. But the whole family members love Sudha and support her. Poorna creates problems for Sudha, and she wants to drive her away from the house. Sudha and Poorna are sisters, but after that, it revealed that her parents adopted Poorna.

The story continued by showing how women solve the problems wisely, and this show depicts the overall family emotions and relations.
