After repeatedly making the same mistake, everyone closed to her left her with little hope. In addition to her parents and elder sister Samra, Ifrah was from a lower-middle-class family. She was honest and hard-working. Samra and Ifrah's parents had faced difficult choices when Mukhtar, Ifrah's uncle, had approached Samra for her hand in marriage to his son Rashid.

Despite Samra's objections, each family had agreed to the proposal.
