Satya Banerjee was an Indian film and television actor best known for his work in Bengali cinema. He appeared in nearly 300 plays, as well as countless other productions. Banerjee was born in Patna, Bihar, on 25th September 1933. He studied at the Lucknow Bengali School in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. After graduating from Ashutosh College, he pursued a Masters in Chemistry from Science College, University of Calcutta. Satya studied and trained at the Berliner Ensemble in the German Democratic Republic from 1966 to 1967. Shri Banerjee has also appeared in Bengali films directed by Shri Satyajit Ray and Shri Mrinal Sen, among others. Shri Satya Banerjee has received several essential accolades for his efforts in theatre and cinema. He has directed around forty plays in Bengali and English.

He is known for his roles in Joi Baba Felunath: The Elephant God (1979), directed by Satyajit Roy, Golapi Mukta Rahasya (1999), Ekdin Protidin (1980), Tin Purush (1986), directed by Umanath Bhattacharya and Satyajiter Goppo Satyajiter Goppo is a series of compilation of som >> Read More... Satya was a close colleague of Shri Utpal Dutt, and he has played leading parts in over 150 plays, including major P.L.T. productions like Kallol, Angar, Neecher Mahal, Mahavidroh, and Titumir.

Some of his famous movies are Niranjan, Moner Moto Mon, Loafer, Bhoy, Gosainpur Sargaram, Sangharsha, Atikram, Mayer Ashirbad, Krantikal, Path O Prasad, Nabab, Jhankar, Abhisar, An Enemy of the People, Dena Paona, Debibaran, Tumi Koto Sundar, Kalankini Nayika, Pratipaksha, Arpan, Mouna Mukhar, Niakriti, Sudur Niharika, Chander Kachhakachhi, Nidhiram Sardar, Sanyasi Raja, Jana Aranya, Chorus, Tin Pari Chhoy Premik, Ali Baba, Roudra Chhaya, Deshbandhu Chittaranjan, Jiban Mrityu, and Rajkanya, Pratinidhi and many more. Some of his awards were Ritwik Ghatak Award in 1989, the BFJA Awards, West Bengal Cine Award for his performance in Ekdin Protidin, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1996, Pashchim Banga Natya Akademi Award in 1982.
