Paul Reiser is an American actor, writer, and producer most popularly known for his hit NBC television series Mad About You. He is married to Paula Ravets since 1988 and has two sons with her- Ezra Samuel and Leon. His father owned a wholesale health-food business, and his mother worked in his father’s firm as a bookkeeper. He did his schooling at the East Side Hebrew Institute and later graduated from the Stuyvesant High School. At school, he used to write class plays and aimed for a specific “hip” audience that had a fair share of comic relief. He did his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, majoring in Piano Composition. During his time at the college, he was a proactive member of the theater community. His career as an actor started in 1982 when he had an amazing break with the film Diner that was directed by Barry Levinson. His character in this film, that of a comedian, brought him and his comic timing into attention. After the success of this film, he played the role of a detective in 1984 film Beverly Hills Cop. He then reprised his role in its sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987. He also played the role of Carter Bruke in James Cameron’s Aliens in 1986. He had his television debut in My Two Dads, where he plays the part of a possible father to a 12 years old girl. But he was not happy about the show, said that it was not realistic.

Therefore, he went to make his own television series, through which he has made himself immortal for the fans of Mad About You. He is still more popular for his role as Paul Buchman in Mad About You than all his other projects combined. The show went on to win the Emmy Award and continued from 1992 to 1999 along with other classic television series like Friends and Seinfeld. After relieving from his immensely successful show, he went on to work in films like Whiplash and Behind the Candelabra, both of which quite appreciated and won awards.

He wrote and acted in the NBC semi-autobiographical series The Paul Reiser Show which aired during 2010-11.But it was taken off-air due to its low ratings. He has tried his hand in writing as well and has so far published three book- Couplehood, Babyhood, and Familyhood. All three are related in some way to his personal life.
