Espen Sandberg is a Norwegian advertising producer and film director. He is famous for his collaboration with the director, Joachim Rønning who is also his childhood friend. The two have delivered several projects like Bandidas, Max Manus: Man of War, Kon-Tiki, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which is scheduled to release in 2017. He earned the nomination at the 85th Academy Awards and the 70th Golden Globe Awards for his work in Kon-Tiki. He was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film 2012. Espen was born in Norway. Espen Sandberg and his best friend Joachim Rønning would spend most of their time making short movies with a 30-pound home video camera which was owned by Joachim's dads. The two went to Stockholm Film School which is in Sweden. In 1994 they gave their majority of time in making propaganda movies for the Royal Norwegian Army. In 1995 they started their own company named Roenberg, which is a collaboration of their last names joined together. Initially, they began filming music videos and commercials.

Their hard work was appreciated in the majority of their work in commercials which led to many major international commissions with advertising films such as Coca-Cola, Airbus, GE, Nintendo, and Nokia. The duo became more famous in the American market with their work in spots for Capital One. With their work in USA Today Super Bowl, 2001 gained them more of appreciation and recognition. The production house was formed in 2002 and is known as one of the largest and well-recognized productions houses in Scandinavia. The movie told the story of two very different women who end up robbing a bank together in an attempt to oppose a terrible enforcer threatening their town. Rønning and Sandberg gave their best work in the 2008 super hit film Max Manus: Man of War, Aksel Hennie playing the lead role. In 2012, Espen the two delivered a big movie about the Kon-Tiki expedition and Thor Heyerdahl.

The movie was released and was highly appreciated. Rotten Tomatoes, a well-known review site gave a report that 83% of the critics and the audience have given the movie positive reviews. The movie was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards and even received recognition at the 70th Golden Globe Awards. In 2013, the two announced that they will be directing Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales which is the fifth installment of the franchise. The movie will release in 2017.
