Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is an admired Hollywood director born in Cologne, West Germany on May 2, 1973. His real name or complete name is Florian Maria Georg Christian Graf Henckel V D. He belongs to the traditional Roman Catholic family. He spent his early life in Brussels, New York Click to look into! >> Read More... , Frankfurt, and Berlin. He graduated from Evangelisches Gymnasium Zum Grauen Kloster high school and then went to study Russian literature staying in the city of Leningrad, which is now St. Petersburg. Then he passed the esteemed Exam of Teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language by the Soviet State. Donnersmarck has a Masters Degree in Politics, Economics and Philosophy from The New College, Oxford, United Kingdom. To add to his CV, he holds a high ranked diploma in the subject of Film Direction from Television and Film University, Munich, Germany.

He got attracted towards movies and making movies when he saw the German film ‘Variete’ instead of ‘Doctor Dolittle’ in the Modern Art Museum, New York, USA; this happened in 1977. In the year 1996, he earned an internship with the most admired Hollywood director Richard Attenborough in his making of the movie ‘In Love and War’ after which, he got his diploma of Film Directing. He wrote, directed and produced a film ‘Doberman’ which is said to have broken the records for the amount of awards triumphed by a movie which is produced by students! It was an international sensation, and he was well appreciated for it.

His first project, ‘Lives of Others’ released in 2006 was a humongous success. He took six years to complete the film. This movie won umpteen numbers of awards like Best Film, the Best Screenplay, and the Best Actor in European Film Awards. It went on to win the award for the Best Foreign Film from the August association called as Film Critics Association of Los Angeles; this film also earned him a nomination for Golden Globe Awards. In 2007, he won the most prestigious Academy Award in the category of Best Film (Foreign Film)! His was also the maker and writer of the film ‘The Tourist’ which is a thriller film and was an international success. This movie starred Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie; it got nominated for several awards like Golden Globe and others. It also won two awards in Teen Choice arena. In 2007, he became one of those 115 people to become the members of AMPAS (Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Science).

In 2012, in the interview with Newspaper, The Guardian, and director Howard Davis.Jr, he was named as the personality he (Howard Davis) most admired! According to the survey done by The Europe List, his movie was listed one among the best three films of European culture.

Talking about his family, he is a Roman Catholic and is the second son of Leo-Ferdinand, who was a former president of German Division in Malta. His uncle is the abbot or father of a monastery in Vienna Woods. Henckel is married to Christiane Asschenfeldt and has three children. They currently reside in Los Angeles, USA.

Apart from being the voter member of the AMPAS, he is honored with the Bavarian order of Merit as the Commander of North Rhine-Westphalian Order of Merit as the same. In 2011, the Oxford University, UK glorified his contribution. Stalwarts from a millennium were honored among them were, Duns Scotus, Lawrence of Arabia, Adam Smith, Bill Clinton, Oscar Wilde, Stephen Hawking and others. Streets in Oxford got their new names; they are counted as 100 streets. Upper Oxpens Street got its new name sourcing from his name.
