John Wilden Hughes (Edmond Dantes), an American nationalist, director, producer and a writer was born on 18th Feb 1950 in Lansing, Michigan to John Hughes, who worked in sales department and a mother who volunteered in charity work. Hughes spent the first twelve years of his life in Grosse Pointe, Michigan.

He was a quite one says Hughes, about his childhood. He describes himself by saying, that he grew up in a neighborhood that had only girls and old people around. He had no boy of his age in his neighborhood, so he spent a lot of time to himself, imagining things. They would get established somewhere every time and would move there. John’s life started to get good in his seventh grade when his family moved to Chicago. Hughes ended up in a famous high school, and he didn’t know anybody there. It was the Beatles and Bob Dylan who came along and changed his whole life.

Hughes felt like he was one particular person on Thursday and another person on Friday, hearing to Bob. The heroes of John were Picasso, Dylan, and John Lennon, because they were comfortable with one another. Hughes talent in penning a story inspired by his family trip as a child paved the way for his entry in the National Lampoon’s magazine.

The basis of the film National Lampoon’s Vacation was his piece “Vacation’58.” The Class Union was his first written screenplay, as the staff of the magazine. The success of the film National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983), along with the success of Hughes another script, Mr.Mom, earned him movie deals with the Universal Studios. His Sixteen Candles in 1984, was a grand success. He also wrote screenplays such as Maid in Manhattan, The Beethoven franchise and The Drillbit Taylor keeping Edmond Dantes as his pseudonym.

After he got retired and moved away from public in 1994, he was broken by the sudden death of John Candy. Finally after the release of Reach the Rock, his son’s album and recording audio commentary for the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off 1999 DVD release, Hughes died of heart attack on August 6th, 2009 in the New York City, US.
