Jun Li

A Hong Kong Film director and screenwriter, Jun Li, was born on August 3, 1991. He was born in London, United Kingdom. But he grew up in Hong Kong. He studied for architecture at the University of Hong Kong, but he left it in mid-session. Later, he studied Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Just after graduation, he began working as a Television reporter. But he quit his job and started studying at the University of Cambridge for a Master of Philosophy in gender studies.

Later, he moved again to Hong Kong and started working as a Research Assistant at the University of Hong Kong. As a research assistant, he started making short films. He directed numerous popular films, like Liu Yang He (2017), My World (2018), Tracey (2018), and Drifting (2021). He was a film producer for My Heart Leaps Up (2016). His movie, Liu Yang He, won the Fresh Wave Award. For his film Tracey, he was brought into the production unit after a director quit the project.

Then, he worked with Philip Keung and River Huang actors. This movie was a world premiere at IFFR. It was about a married man transitioning in his 50s into a transgender person. However, Jun Li did not receive the First Feature Film Initiative, a Hong Kong Government subsidy because this LGBT movie serves as a barrier to win such initiatives. Besides it, this movie gave him a lot of popularity and this movie got nominated for three awards at The Golden Horse Film Festival.

Jun Li was nominated for the Best New Director award. His movie, Drifting, was nominated for twelve awards and became the most nominated film of that year. This movie gave tough competition to other movies at the International Film Festival Rotterdam Big Screen Competition. It got the Golden House Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Heyward Mank was a co-editor of Drifting with Jun Li. Jun Li played the role of an actor in the series I Miss You When I See You (2017).

His movie, My World, won the 24th IFVA Award in the Silver Category. Plain Sailing movie won the 27th IFVA Award. Jun Li has won many awards, including an Award for Best Director at the Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival.
