Springer Berman finished her studies from the Wesleyan University. She received her master's degrees in film from the Columbia University. She got married to Robert Pulcini in 1994. Springer Berman is Jewish and her husband Pulcini is from an Italian family. The pair has a rule in which they usually exchange whose name appears first in the acknowledgments of their movies.

They first appeared in the movie Off the Menu: The Last Days of Chasen's in the year 1997. It was a documentary based on 1936; Chasen's one of the most expensive restaurants in Los Angeles, recognized for its renowned film industry clientele. The chili was so noted that Elizabeth Taylor had it traveled from Los Angeles to the set in Rome while she was filming for the movie Cleopatra. Chasen's was well known internationally as well as a continuation of U.S. presidents. In 1995, after 60 years of duty, Chasen's Restaurant shut down. During its final weeks of maintenance, daily customers, workers, and administrators were interviewed about Chasen's and its story.

In 2003 they came up with American Splendor. It was a biographical comedy-drama, cinema about Harvey Pekar, the writer of the American Splendor ironic book series.
