Valerie Walsh Valdes is the executive producer and co-creator of the famous children’s animated television series Dora the Explorer. Valerie Walsh Valdes was born on April 10th, 1966, in the United States of America. She attended New York University and earned two Master’s degrees in Film and Dramatic Writing and Education. Besides the curriculum, Valerie Walsh is an active member of the Creative Arts team, a theater group. As a theater member, she has written, produced, and directed several dramas and independent films. Initially, Valerie Walsh aspired to become a teacher as his father was a teacher. But her career path changed when she started interning for Nickelodeon, an American television channel for children. One of the initial projects she worked on with Nick was the TV series Gullah, Gullah Island. The idea for Dora the Explorer began way back in 1997.

It was supposed to be a show about a seven-year-old girl named Tess and her animal friends. But later, they changed the background of the girl to be a Latina and renamed her Dora. So, Dora the Explorer is all about Dora and her friend Boots, who go on an adventurous journey overcoming various obstacles by solving quests. Besides being a creator, Valerie Walsh also worked as the executive producer for the show. Thus, Dora the Explorer started airing as a twenty-two minutes show on August 14, 2000. Ever since the broadcast, the show became popular with kids and characters such as Boots, Backpack, Tico the Squirrel, Benny the Bull, Deigo,

and more. Owing to the fame, the show got dubbed and released in various foreign languages, including Tamil, under the name Doravin Payanangal. Valerie Walsh Valdes’s other masterpiece creations were the television series Go, Diego! Go!, Dora and Friends: Into the City!, Diego’s Moonlight Rescue, and Santiago of the Seas. Valerie Walsh has also penned the screenplay for the above series. She has written many short films and movies including, Dora’s Royal Rescue, Dora celebrates Three Kings Day, etc. For the incredible work she has been doing, Valerie Walsh is awarded Peabody Award for Outstanding Children’s Programming, NAACP Image Awards, and Parents Choice Award.
