Mireia Lalaguna

Mireia Lalaguna Royo is a Spanish model and actress who won the titles of Miss World Spain 2015 and Miss World 2015. Born on 21st November 1992 in Barcelona, Spain to Encarna Royo and Jose Luis Lalaguna, this beauty queen is fluent in four languages: Catalan, Spanish, English, and French. A fact of matter, she chose pharmacy as her graduation subject at Copenhagen University, Denmark. Measuring 177 centimetres, she wishes to organise a nutrition based business start-up to help the world to solve the issue of malnutrition. Before becoming Miss World Spain, Mireia was no stranger to pageantry with winning Miss Atlantico Internacional 2014 (roughly translates to Miss Atlantic International) and succeeded Lorena Romaso of Uruguay.

In 2015, Mireia won Miss World Spain Barcelona 2015 and represented Barcelona at the national level. Twenty participants from all over Spain participated for the title of Miss World Spain 2015 and Mireia won the crown of Miss World Spain. She defeated the likes of Maria Ruiz and Sarah Loinaz to achieve the national title. She succeeded Lourdes Rodriguez to represent Spain at Miss World 2015. Mireia went on to participate in Miss World 2015 which was held on 19th December 2015. The 65th edition had its share of controversies too with the host nation China’s refusal to allow Miss Canada Anastasia Lin to participate in the programme.

Irrespective of controversies, Mireia defied all the odds to defeat 113 other participants to be crowned Miss World 2015. Thus, she became the first Spanish woman to win the coveted Miss World title and succeeded Rolene Strauss of South Africa. Apparently, her impressive speech was well received by the judges and viewers alike. Her victory sent a strong message to Catalonian separatists as she hailed from Catalonia and helped the Iberian nation to attain glory. As Miss World, Mireia worked with various organisations to raise awareness about social issues existing around the world.

She sparked a controversy when she admitted to cheating during the Miss World 2015. Apparently, she plays a piano in her introductory video. However, she did not play the music at all.
