Delroy Lindo is a British-American actor, who has played positive and negative roles in his career. He has established himself in the film industry for almost three decades as a hardworking and versatile actor. He has worked in the film industry and has also shown his talent in television shows and the theater.

Born in the Thames, South East London, he was raised in Lewisham. His father didn’t have a permanent job and hence shifted from one to another, while his mother was a nurse. Delroy moved with his mother, in his teenage years, to Canada and later on to the US. Currently, he resides in Oakland, California.

He was five years old when he was first exposed to acting. He played as one of the kings in a play produced by Nativity. ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ and ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ which aired on public TV is what inspired Delroy to choose his career in acting. He moved to San Francisco, when he was 24 years, to study in the American Conservatory Theater. He studied with scholarship and, in 1979, graduated. He received an Honorary Doctorate from Virginia Union University for Arts and Humanities, and also a BFA degree in 2004 from San Francisco State University. He is also a member of the Arts Studio.

Delroy was first married to Kathi Coaston, whom he divorced. Later he married Nashormeh Lindo in 1990, who was an artist and an educator in arts. His son Damiri was born in 2001. His debut movie was a British comedy; ‘Find the Lady’ (1976). He then appeared in the movie ‘More American Graffiti’ in which he played the role of an army sergeant. He then quit acting in films for almost ten years, to concentrate on his theater career. His Broadway debut was "Master Harold"...and the Boys.

He then went on to act in a touring production. He portrayed Harald Loomis in the Broadway play, ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’, which brought him a Tony Award nomination. After coming back to the film industry in the 90's, he did three roles in Spike Lee's films that gave a better recognition to his work. The characters he played were different in each of the films. He was a drug dealer in one of the movies, a psychotic gangster and the father of an African-American family. The year 1996 proved to be the biggest year for Delroy as he got major supporting roles in six movies. He bagged the nomination for the NAACP Image Award for ‘Soul of the Game’.

He also gave his voice for the animated series ‘ Up Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ in 2009 for Beta, a Rottweiler dog. He has been nominated for various awards for his roles in more than ten movies. He won the Los Angeles Theater Weekly Award in 2006.
