He was raised in Newburgh, Indiana. He was born to his mother, Julie, and father, Mark Rosenbaum. His mother was a writer and published the book, “Journey of a lifetime”. She also acted in several plays. His father worked at pharmaceuticals. Michael was one of the six siblings. He has two brothers, Eric and Adam, and a sister, Laurie. His parents got divorced. His mother remarried with the sports reporter, Gordon Engelhardt.

His father got remarried with Alexis Peregrino, a starting performer with whom he had two daughters Ava and Lia. Michael is Jewish and says, he was more religious when he was residing in New York than in Indiana. Rosenbaum attended Castle High School in Indiana and Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
