Grace Patricia Kelly or ostentatiously known as Grace Kelly was a former American actress known for her roles in Mogambo, The Country Girl, High Noon, Rear Window, Dial M For Murder, High Society, and To Catch A Thief, among many others. Kelly was crowned as the Princess of Monaco after tying the knot with Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Kelly has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination. The decade of the 50s saw Kelly feature in over 40 episodes of stage plays.
Kelly comes from a family of cognoscenti, and was born to parents, John B. Kelly, and Margaret Katherine Majer, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Kelly’s father was a three-time Olympic Gold medalist in Sculling, and her mother was the first female at the University of Pennsylvania to coach the women’s athletics team. The Pulitzer Prize winner, George Kelly, and the popular vaudeville artist, Walter C. Kelly, were Grace’s uncles. Kelly was given an invitation to the Cannes Film Festival in 1955, where she met her to-be husband, Prince Rainier III of Monaco at the Palace of Monaco, during a photo shoot. Kelly tied the knot with Rainier III in a ceremony described as the wedding of the century. In 1962, Kelly was offered a lead female role in the Alfred Hitchcock-directed Marnie, but she turned it down following an outcry in Monaco among the masses. A few years later, Kelly served as the narrator for the ABC Network-produced television film, The Poppy Is Also A Flower.
Unfortunately in 1982, Kelly met with a fatal accident after having suffered a stroke while driving. September 14th, 1982 marked Kelly’s funeral at the Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco.
