Patricia Heaton is an American film and television actress. Patricia Helen Heaton, her birth name, was born on 4th March 1958 in Bay Village, Ohio, US. Her mother was Patricia (Nee Hurd), and father was Chuck Heaton, a sportswriter at the Plain Dealer. When she was 12, her mother died due to an aneurysm. Patricia was raised as a devout Roman Catholic. She has three sisters namely Sharon, Alice and Frances and also a brother, Michael. Michael is a columnist of 'Minister of Culture' at the Plain Dealer also a writer for its Friday magazine. Heaton went to Ohio State University; she graduated with a degree in BA. During that time, she also became the sister of Delta Gamma Sorority. In the year of 1980, she moved to New York City to study with drama teacher William Esper. During one of the Stage Three production's performances in Los Angeles, Heaton was noticed by a casting director who gave her the role of an oncologist in the ABC drama ‘Thirty Something’. Further, she appeared as a guest in the TV series like ‘Alien Nation’ (1989), ‘Matlock’ (1990), ‘Party of Five’ (1996) and ‘Danny Phantom’ (2004). Heaton was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the last seven seasons of the series and won the award twice in 2000 and 2001.

Among the whole cast, she became the first to win an Emmy, when she received the award in the year 2000. Heaton received two Viewers for Quality Television Awards too. She also earned a Screen Actors Guild trophy for her performance in the series. In the seventh season of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’, Heaton helped a firefighter and his family to build a home. Some of the TV movies she has worked in are ‘Shattered Dreams’ (1990), ‘Miracle in the Woods’ (1997), ‘A Town Without Christmas (2001), ‘The Goodbye Girl’ (2004) alongside Jeff Daniels and ‘The Engagement Ring’ in the year 2005.In 2006, she played the role of Barbara Bodine, a former US Ambassador to Yemen in the ABC’s docudrama ‘The Path to 9/11’. In 2008, she worked in the movie, based on the real story of a mother named Ellen Cohen who was dealing with her son, who was suffering from Tourette syndrome; the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie was named ‘Front of the Class’. In 2005, she produced a documentary ‘The Bituminous Coal Queens of Pennsylvania’; the documentary was directed by her husband.

She was also among the producers of drama, ‘Amazing Grace’, of William Wilberforce in the year 2006. The play was performed at the Second Stage Theatre, New York City. Heaton was nominated for the 22nd Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress Award for her performance in the play. In the year 2011, TV Guide Network gave her the 24th rank in the category of ‘Funniest Women on TV’. On 22nd May 2012, she earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Heaton married David Hunt, a British actor, in 1990. The couple has four sons.
