Sarah Kate Silverman was born in New Hampshire. Her parents were Beth Ann and Donald Silverman who raised her in Manchester, New Hampshire. Her mother was the campaign photographer of George McGovern while his father, trained in social work, had a clothing store called Crazy Sophie’s Outlet. She has four siblings, and she is the youngest one. Her brother, however, died when he was just three months old, leaving just four sisters. One of her sisters is a Rabbi, one a screenwriter and one is an actress.

Their parents’ divorced to remarry other people. Born in a Jewish family, she does not consider herself religious. She began her career as a comedian at the age of 17. She graduated from The Derryfield School and then attended NYU for just a year before dropping out to do stand-up comedy in the Greenwich Village. She also appears on various albums like Lullabies to Paralyze by Queens of the Stone Age and Death To All But Metal by Steel Panther. She began her own TV sitcom called The Sarah Silverman Program in 2007 on Comedy Central. Many actors have appeared on the show. She was nominated for Primetime Emmy Award because of her acting on that show.

However, CC cancelled the show after three seasons. She has hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2007 and appeared on MTV Music Awards in the same year. It was a fun song she sung with Matt Damon which explained that she had an affair with Matt behind Jimmy’s back. The song ended up winning an Emmy Award and a Creative Arts Emmy Award. She is also seen in different seasons on the show Monk and in a documentary called Strange Powers in 2008. In 2010, she released her autobiography which has the title ‘’The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption and Pee.’’

She spoke in support of Hillary Clinton in 2016, urging Bernie’s supporters to support her too. Her speech was considered as a ‘’breath of fresh air’’ by the New York Times.

She has been a vegetarian since the age of ten and struggles with clinical depression about which she is very open. Her battle even led her to get addicted to Xanax for a short while and gives credit to the drug Zoloft for the betterment of her health. Her depression struggle is so real that she is scared to have biological children due to the fear that they might inherit it. In her autobiography, she openly discusses the fact the suffered from the issue of wetting her bed since she was a child and still has those episodes too. She dated Jimmy Kimmel for six years from 2002 to 2008.

After splitting in 2008, they rekindled only to separate again in 2009 after which she started dating TV writer Alec Sulkin at the beginning of 2010. They broke up soon after but remain friends. She dated comedian Kyle Dunnigan for two years from October 2011. After their breakup in 2013, she started to date Michal Sheen since 2014. In 2016, she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in the intensive care unit due to a case of epiglottitis.
