English Musician Nico Abondolo

The alumni from the Music Academy, Nico Abondolo, who was born as Nico Carmine Abondolo is an internationally acknowledged prime double bass solo as well as a chamber musician. He has been a faculty member of the Music Academy since 1990. At USC, he studied under the professor of string bass Mr. Dennis Trembly, Peter Mercurio and the cellist Gábor Rejt. He has also taken lessons at Julliard under David Walter as well as Albert Fuller and with Franco Petracchi at  ‘Accademia Chigiana,’  Italy.

Nico Abondolo is also the guest professor at Azusa Pacific University, California.  At the young age of fourteen, Abondolo made his breakthrough with Philharmonic, Los Angeles. Nico has been performing recitals with different orchestras in various places in US and Europe. He was the first double bass musician who won the title at ‘International Competition for Musical Performers’ that was held in Geneva, Switzerland in 1983. Nico has recorded the music Concerto per Corde, a composition of Alberto Evaristo Ginastera along with the San Francisco’s Orchestra New Century Chamber. He also has co-directed and composed wonders for the ‘Perk’s Dance Music Theater.’

Mr. Nico Abondolo performs chamber music on a regular basis at the nationally recognized La Jolla Music Society Summer Fest as well as at the annual Ojai classical music festival. He is also a regular performer at the St. Barts music festival. Nico is also seen playing at the assemblage of world class chamber music- Concert Nova. He accompanies the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. 

Nico, as a tribute to his mentor/friend David Walter for his encouragement, wisdom, and inspiration, has put together pieces of music named Two for David. This was the result of inspiration taken from the instrument, Chinese Gu-Chin- a slight resemblance to the fret board of the bass guitar, which was introduced to Nico by Christopher Roberts and David Walter.
 

Nico loves to go deep and explore the world of double bass, its texture, and color; he loves making a performance range for his players. He under one of the world’s most famed conductor, an Italian, Claudio Abbado, the American composer/conductor/violinist Lorin Maazel and the operatic conductor Sir Georg Solti,  has traveled with the Chamber Orchestra, Europe. Mr. Abondolo served as the concertmaster for the film ‘The Simpsons Movie: The Music.’
