Born on November 26, 1943, in Idaho, USA, Marilynne Summers Robinson is an American essayist and novelist. Robinson spent his childhood in Sandpoint of Idaho. Her sibling is David Summers, the art historian, who devoted his book name Vision, Reflection, and Desire to her in Western Painting.

 She has been visiting professor or author-in-residence at numerous colleges, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst in MFA Program for Poets and Writers, the University of Kent and Amherst. In 2009, she kept a Dwight H.

Terry Lectureship giving a progression of talks named “Absence of Mind.” On 19 April of 2010, she became an associate of the Arts and Sciences Academy in America. Robinson conveyed Oxford University's yearly Esmond Harmsworth Lecture at the Rothermere American Institute of college in American Arts and Letters in May of 2011.

She is presently the Professor F. Wendell Miller of Creative Writing and English at the Writers' Workshop in Iowa, where she lives. Robinson became the keynote speaker for the 75th commemoration festivity of Workshop in June of 2011. In 2012, she granted honoris causa, the Doctor of Literature degree at Brown University. On 18 February of 2013, Robinson was the speaker at the University of the South and was honoured with the Doctor of Literature degree, honoris causa.

The Oxford University, the College of the Holy Cross, Skidmore College, Notre Dame and Amherst College have additionally awarded Robinson privileged degrees. She became an associate of Mansfield College at Oxford University.

Robinson was brought up as a Presbyterian and later turned into a Congregationalist, adoring and now lecturing in Iowa City at the Congregational United Church of Christ.
