If there is everything and well-equipped, and you achieve something, there is nothing great in it. But if you have nothing, and do something, then it is great. He made films in the very starting days of film technology. Those are the days when he, himself has to do everything and release the film. These are all the difficulties faced by one of the famous classic director, producer and the backbone for every film he released, Eric Pommer. Erich Pommer was born on 20 July 1889, in Hildesheim province of Hanover, Germany. His parents were Gustav Pommer and Anna. He went to a school at Goettingen, and he had an interest in reading stories in English, Germany, and French. For reading the stories, he neglected some classes too in the school.

After completing his schooling, the entire family moved to Berlin as a part of military service. All through his life, Erich Pommer didn't stick to film production. He also served the country during the World War | and he got an Iron Cross. At first, he worked in Machol and Lewin's Men's Furnishings Shop. On his sister's advice, he joined as a salesperson at Gaumont Film Company. Erich Pommer met Karl Freund, who is a film enthusiast, and both of them became friends. By 1909, he took the position as the in charge of film distribution for Austro- Hungarian Empire. As a part of his job, Erich Pommer met Marcel Vandal of Eclair Company. In 1913, Erich Pommer married Gertrud Levy whom he met while working at Machol and Lewin's. They had a child Hans born in 1916.

Erich Pommer had a passion for aviation after filming. With that effect, he produced two movies Das Geheimnis der Lufte in 1913 and F.P 1 Doesn't Answer in 1933, which have aviation aspects as the background. From 1900, Erich Pommer made the effort to transform the appearance of the stage shows and plays. He added creativity to the plays and transformed the way they look to people. His leadership for Decla made it stand along with the famous international studios then. After merging with Meinert Film and Oliver Film, they produced some good movies like The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1920.

Erich Pommer worked for many companies independently, and he is the one who always focussed on many aspects of modernisation of films like adding sound to the films, etc. With many collaborations, he is instrumental in making movies like Variety, Faust, Metropolis, The Blue Angel, etc. He grew to such heights that Erich Pommer is one of the most important person associated with German and European film industries. After getting the American citizenship, Levy and Pommer started living in the USA. He died on 8 May 1966 in Los Angeles.
