Sia is an Australian singer and songwriter. She was born to art lecturer mum Leone and musician dad Phil Colson. She grew up around music, and her uncle Colin Hay was a member of Australian group Men At Work. She completed her high school diploma from Adelaide High School. Her prominence as a singer came through singing with a local jazz band, moreover she also lent her voice to Australian DJ Friendly’s hit track ‘Some Kind Of Love Song’. This success led her to have a solo career, but it didn’t work out the way she anticipated, and she soon made a plan to move to England to be with her boyfriend. Tragically, a week before she was supposed to leave for the UK, he met with an accident, wherein was hit by a car and killed. Sia went through depression and breakdown after the incident… to an interview she said she was torn apart by that incident. She describes the young man (Dan) as the love of her life, and his death was a very devastating and hurtful event of her life. Her solo album Healing Is Difficult explains the ramifications of the death of Dan. On her interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, she said "I was pretty f***ed up after Dan died, I couldn't feel anything. Though I could intellectualise a lot of stuff; that I had a purpose, that I was loved, eventually I couldn't feel anything." In a 2007 interview with The Sunday Times, she added: "We were all devastated, so we got addicted to drugs and Special Brew. Adding. Unfortunately, that period lasted six very long years for me. After the break down of the band Crisp, Sia moved to London. And it was here where she got her breakthrough. She started here as a background vocalist for a band named Jamiroquai. This adventure led her to join another band; a very acclaimed band; Zero 7. But she didn’t stop there; she took a big leap forward towards her dream in 2000, She signed a recording contract with Sony. Here happened the beginning of her solo career. Her very first solo album ‘Healing is difficult’ was released the same year. It was from this album that we got the hit single “Drink to Get Drunk.” Even the song “Little Man” was received with great appreciation, UK’s artist Wookie remixed this song, and it went on to become a dance-club staple. With these two songs, it was self-assumed that Sia’s career was about to takeoff. Later Sia moved to the States, where she released her second solo album “Colour The Small One” she released this album in collaboration with Beck. It contained the famous song ‘Breath Me’.

It was a major success. During the 2008 Beijing Olympics, it was featured on Channel Seven. Also played on the series Six Feet Under. Though Sia had peaks of Success through her other albums her breakout album was ‘Some People Have Real Problems’, it debuted at no. 26 in the States. It was received with much applauses. This album was the album of the month at Starbucks stores throughout the States. She even appeared on David Letterman show; to which she said it was my childhood dream to be on this show and as a kid I would always practise answering David’s questions. I would rehearse interviews with him. On this same show, she performed her song “Soon We’ll Be Found.” Well known American Singer Christina Aguilera later approached Sia for writing ballads for her sixth album ‘Bionic’. That album had three songs which were co-written by Sia. Sia also wrote the song ‘Bound To you’ for the American film Burlesque. That song showcased two very famous singers Aguilera and Cher. But as she started to succeed, there came a lot of problems in her life. She fell victim to drug and alcohol abuse. She was also diagnosed with Graves disease. It was then that she dropped out of singing and started her career as a songwriter. She wrote the song "Titanium" for David Guetta, From 2011 to 2013 Sia wrote for artists like Madonna, Flo Rida, Beyoncé and Rihanna, who took the Sia-penned song "Diamonds" to No. 1. Though later she decided to return to her career as a singer. When she reappeared, she was wearing a white wig that completely covered her face. She only appeared in public, hidden by the wig, from TV performances to live appearances. And she only became more famous later, with songs such as “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” which made waves on the pop charts. Her album ‘100 Forms of Fear’ reached no. 1 on the US charts; it was her first album to do so. Sia later went on to receive four Grammy nominations. In the month of August in 2014, Sia married Erik Anders Lang, a documentary filmmaker. Being a vegan she together with another celebrity has spoken on various occasions for animal welfare causes.
