Saurabh Som

Saurabh Som was born in Kolkata, India, and spent his formative years in Mumbai and Pune. He grew up in a straightforward, ordinary middle-class family. His mother has a degree in the arts, while his father is a mechanical engineer. Since Saurabh's father used to travel frequently, she assumed caregiving duties for him due to being a homemaker. He experiences ups and downs on his path. Even though at the time, such careers in film and visual effects were unheard of, he had always been interested in pursuing them. So, it was challenging. He received a Diploma in Aviation and Hospitality upon graduation. He began his employment as ground staff at an airport. A few years later, he decided to pursue filmmaking.

After graduating from Whistling Woods International in Mumbai with a diploma in filmmaking and video production, he began working as a DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) and assistant video editor on film sets. He was determined that it was time to advance his abilities after working for a few years and networking with other technicians, so he enrolled in Media Design School, New Zealand, to pursue a bachelor's degree in Animation and Visual Effects. After completing his studies at the Media Design School, he created a demo reel and began contacting studios. He was traveling to Mumbai, India, to see his parents. On Facebook, he came across a post informing him that DNEG had just started a new business called ReDefine and was holding a job roadshow in Hyderabad.

For the interview, he boarded a plane for Hyderabad, and the rest, as they say, is history. Any industry can benefit from networking. In New Zealand, he has been working as a freelancer and honing his talents by assisting other pupils. Saurabh Som is a Hollywood VFX artist. He was a director of photography and editor for films and commercials before becoming a visual effects composite artist. He takes delight in working in a team and picking up new abilities from skilled artists from all around because, as a Compositor, he generates the final image of a frame or a VFX sequence and is typically the last step in the VFX pipeline.

The entertainment profession, in his opinion, is fantastic because it allows you to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds whom all have unique tales to contribute.
