Ishu Patel

A very multi-talented and enthusiast with great determination and hardworking person, Ishu Patel is an animator, animation film director, producer, and educator. He was born on 20th April 1942 in Gujarat, India, did his Bachelors in fine arts from M.S University in Baroda and then also got hired as a faculty trainer at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. This is an amazing design school with teachers having exceptional skills, experience and students with determination. It was under Mrs. Gandhi and created by Government of India.

During his time as a faculty member of the designer’s team, a lot of international experts visited them, appreciated the good work and also wanted to work along with them. Many graphic designers, textile designers, photographers, illustrators, etc. from various places came to visit, work and learn. He was also able to finish his post-graduation under Armin Hoffman at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Switzerland, returned to NID where he taught for a while and later on became the Head of Visual Communications.

He also did a few animations for the French, especially for the children for entertainment purpose. With twenty-five years of experience at the National Film Board of Canada, he has introduced and developed a lot of new techniques and styles of Animation in his field of interest by the theme. He teaches internationally, after being able to produce animation for television and movies. He got into the Film Board of Canada, through a scholarship where he studied filmmaking of animated movies for a year and then produced lots and lots of animations, before settling into teaching. He did a remarkable job in teaching and mentoring the younger people who wanted to learn animated filmmaking and his students have passed out exceptionally well.

He adapted a lot of techniques which were very notable and also appreciable. His technique of multiple passes and variable exposure was one of them and it was adopted in a lot of movies. Some of his great works include Moondust, Divine Fate, Paradise, Top Priority, Afterlife, Bead Game, Perspectrum, How death came to earth. His contribution in these films gave them a huge success and added to his notable works. He got international recognition, fame, and respect for this. He got so many award nominations and won a lot of awards for each of his film.
