Balraj Syal was born in a middle-class family in Jalandhar, Punjab. He did his schooling from the ‘Parvati Jain Senior Secondary School’ in Jalandhar. Since School days, he was an all-rounder. He used to participate in extra-curricular activities as well as was good at studies. He is an arts graduate. During his college days, he spent most of the time in the theatre, sports, and other such activities. Balraj was also a part of NSS.

In an interview when he was asked what he misses the most from his college life, the comedian replied that he misses his friends the most as they used to hang out with him all day long during NSS camps and cultural festivals. Balraj is multi-talented as he is a stand-up comedian, an anchor, an actor, creative writer and a dialogue writer as well. He first came into the limelight with the show ‘Laughter Challenge 4’ where he was the runner-up. Although he didn’t emerge as a winner but he got work as a creative writer for several shows on the channel Star One since the year 2008.

In the year 2010, he finished as a finalist for the show ‘ Laughter Ke Phatke Laughter Ke Phatke was an Indian comedy show produ >> Read More... ’ on Star One. Later, he emerged as a winner for the reality show ‘Comedy Ka Mahamuqabla’ on Star Plus in the year 2011. Balraj has also worked for the channel B4U as a stand-up comedian. He has also worked as an anchor for the show ‘Big Mele Ka Star- Season 2’ for the channel Spark Punjabi. The multi-talented Syal is closely associated with the MH1 channel and has been working as an anchor and stand-up comedian since 2006 to the present. He has been part of all the comedy shows on the channel as well as done more than 500 live shows as VJ and celebrity interview-based shows. Balraj is not limited to the television, but he has worked in several Punjabi movies as well, some of them include ‘Dharti’, ‘Kabaddi Once Again’, ‘Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22’, ‘Putt Jattan De’, ‘Heer And Hero’ and much more.

Currently, he is working with K9 productions as well as on other projects.
