Anil completed his graduation from Bhagat Singh College, Delhi, India in the year 1989. His love for acting grew at a very young age. His brain was very sharp with full of exciting stories, which were ready to blast out. Anil was also had different skills like, he was a trained table and martial art student. He stepped into the film industry in the year 1996.

He worked for the film Jeet as an assistant director. Later for gaining more experience as he was a newcomer, Anil assisted four more movies being at the same places called Jaan, Itihas, Pyaar to Hona hi Tha, and Hindustan ki Kasam in the years 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999. All the four movies were of his elder brother Ajay Devgan and one the movie called Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha was of his to be sister-in-law. Then came his first debut as the director of the movie Raju Chacha in the year 2000.

This film had given him lots of fame and name in the film industry. This movie was the most expensive movie of that time, which became the biggest film of that time. Then in the year 2005, after a gap of five years, Anil came up with the film Blackmail, which was a super-hit movie in theatres. Anil Devgan died on 5^th October 2020 due to cardiac arrest. The sudden death of the 45-year-old shocked not only his family but the entire film fraternity.
